SEO: Content is King Forever – Publish Lots of Quality Content

Content is one of the most important aspects of search engine optimization. If you’ve ever watched any YouTube videos on the subject or read SEO advice on blogs, they all stress the importance of content. Content is king.

This page is part of the Search Engine Optimization Guide, which you can find here: SEO Guide – Ztips.org.

It’s the evergreen law of SEO – you need the best possible content related to your search query to get top rankings in search engines. Content should be informative, reliable and most relevant to the user’s query and search intent.

Google aims to provide results that best match the user’s query. A good rule of thumb is that the more searches there are for a given search phrase/keyword, the harder it is to rank highly. The higher the volume, the higher the quality and coverage of content required to rank on the SERP (Search Engine Results Page).

Produce high quality content

Producing high quality content that meets the needs of a Googler is not rocket science. There is no one-size-fits-all formula. Above all, good content requires a customer-centric approach.

You shouldn’t just think about keywords or text length, but start building content from the customer’s perspective. What are the questions that the customer would like answered? How can your product or service help them? What information do you have in your field that could be of real value to your customers?

The best way to come up with content topics is to ask customers. You’ll probably think of questions that have been asked about your product or service. Write down 5-10 questions on paper and search for them on Google using the most common search terms. You’re sure to find some good ideas for content production.

Another way is to use paid and free tools that analyse millions of different websites and Google’s available data from user queries. This is called keyword analysis, which can help you find content ideas that your competitors have not realised they can exploit. More on that in the next section.

How much content is enough?

You need to publish a lot of content, especially in the early stages. Preferably at least a few articles every couple of weeks. If you aim for low-volume keywords in the beginning (which is recommended), you can expect one article to attract a few or at most dozens of people per month, with good luck. To start competing for higher popularity keywords and queries, you first need to have a strong authority base for your website.

Write and produce only quality content

Quality content doesn’t just mean blog posts, but also other types of content such as videos. When Google notices that a blog post is only read for 15 seconds, or that a YouTube video is only watched for the first 30 seconds, it will say that this is not quality content.

It is also recommended that users find the information they want on the page and with reasonable ease. Even if the article is 1500 words long, but the user still cannot find the information they are looking for on the page, Google will sooner or later rank the page as not being of high quality and drop the page lower in its search results.

Storytelling

If you sell a product or service, you should also invest in storytelling. Storytelling is a powerful form of influence. People like to read stories.

People consume stories more than facts – Netflix series beat news any day in terms of viewing figures. Many people skip ads on social media – a US study shows that people see more than 200 ads a day.

In any channel, storytelling works. For example: blog, social media channels, YouTube, magazine ads, emails.

For example, in your blog post or email, you can tell a memorable and engaging story that will make people remember you and what you are selling.
